Suzuki’s Ken Roczen Earns Tenth Top-Five Supercross Result

Brea, CA - (April 7, 2025)Rain, wind, and near freezing temperatures transformed the Foxborough Supercross track into a gauntlet of mud for the Monster Energy AMA Supercross racers. The slick and sticky morass abbreviated practice and qualifying to one 10-minute session for each group and shortened the 450SX main event down to a 12-minute plus one lap race inside Gillette Stadium.

Race Highlights:

  • Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki
    •  450 Class
      • Ken Roczen delivered his 10th top-five result in 12 rounds.
  • Twisted Tea Suzuki Presented by Progressive Insurance
    • 450 Class
      • Colt Nichols posted his season-best result and move his RM-Z450 up three positions in the championship standings.
      • Kyle Chisholm led laps in the LCQ and added to his popularity with race fans.

Ken Roczen (94) aggravated an ankle injury in practice yet soldiered on through one of the toughest races of the season. Roczen managed to emerge with another top-five result.

Ken Roczen (94) has shared information about his shoulder injury that he incurred 22-days before the Foxborough Supercross but had kept an ankle injury relatively quiet. At Foxborough, Roczen twisted his foot and re-aggravated that ankle injury in qualifying. Extreme pain forced Roczen to retire early from qualifying. When it was time to go racing, Roczen rose to the challenge. In the Foxborough main event, Roczen charged off the line to a top-three start. After dropping back a few spots on the opening lap, Roczen kept his momentum up through the mud and advanced his Suzuki RM-Z450 up the leader board. He reached a top-three spot, but an issue on the final lap required Roczen to settle for a fourth-place result.

“We only had one practice, which I'm totally fine with, but I have been aggravating my ankle [that I injured in the same] crash when I hurt my shoulder, and it's becoming more of a problem,” Roczen said. “I re-aggravated it in practice really bad. I wasn't even sure if I was going to race. These conditions are just terrible for an ankle [issue]. I ended up racing and we ended up making a night out of it for sure. The conditions were just next level brutal. I worked my way to third somehow for most of the race. Everything was going pretty smoothly until the last lap. My bike was slowly starting to act a little funny, and basically I stalled it twice. But I was able to get it back running and I was able to finish. My bike was on its last leg yet able to finish it in fourth. I wish we could have been on the podium, that would have been amazing, but at the same time we take what we can get. We need to figure out the ankle to be back 100%, and then I feel like I'll have a legit shot at getting another win.”

Colt Nichols (45) shined in the challenging conditions and put his Twisted Tea Suzuki into the top ten at the Foxborough Supercross.

Colt Nichols (45) jumped in a top-three spot in his heat race and was running strong when the mud caught him off balance and he dropped outside of a qualifying spot. Nichols got back up to speed and climbed back to a transfer position. Nichols got a mid-pack start in the main and steadily moved forward; Nichols crossed the checkered flag with his season-best main event result. The points earned in Foxborough moved Nichols up three positions in the point standings.

“Foxborough was a much better night for me. It was a condensed schedule and we only had one practice, so we had to make the most out of that,” reported Nichols. “In the heat race I got a really good start in third. I ended up crashing on the first lap and went back to 20th, then caught all the way back up to fifth. I didn't quite get the start in the main event but rode up to an eighth-place finish. Overall, I’m really happy. It was a very big step in the right direction for me. Now on to next weekend to try and do it all over again in the mud.”

Kyle Chisholm (11) pulled the holeshot in the LCQ and led laps before settling into a secure direct-transfer spot into the main.

Kyle Chisholm (11) battled in an out of a direct transfer spot in his heat race and dropped outside of the transfer positions on the final lap. He pulled a big holeshot in the LCQ and rode a smart race to a transfer into the main. Chisholm was not able to translate his LCQ speed into the main and wasn’t able to navigate the muddy track to the checkers.

“I ripped the holeshot in the LCQ and ended up second; just kind of rode it smart. I wanted to win but I didn't want to do anything silly and crash or throw it away,” said Chisholm. “Then in the main I had an issue with my clutch and wasn’t able to finish… The mechanics, everybody worked their butts off to keep everything going and we just had that issue and it was just a bummer… It's racing though, and things happen. We’ll get everything fixed up and be ready for Philly next week, have a good week of practice, hopefully we’ll have a little bit better track… and get out there and have some fun.”

“Foxborough Massachusetts had some of the toughest conditions that I've seen, ever, in Supercross,” said Larry Brooks, Team Manager for the Twisted Tea/H.E.P. Motorsports/Suzuki presented by Progressive Insurance Team. “Ken Roczen hurt his ankle in practice, so he actually wasn't going to race, but he decided at the last minute – missed opening ceremonies and everything – but he decided to race and he finished fourth in the main event. He would have had third, but he stalled the bike a couple times. The bikes were just struggling to make it to the end. The conditions were really bad. Colt Nichols finished eighth on the night and Kyle Chisholm finished 21st, his bike didn't make it to the end of the race, but with the way the track was, how the conditions were, how thick the mud was, I'm surprised any bikes made it to the end. It was incredibly difficult, so we're happy with the finish of tonight… It was a tough day for everybody, so we're happy to get out of here in one piece. We’re on to Philadelphia next weekend and we're hoping that the rain holds off, but it's not looking very good, so I think we're going to have some mud races for these last few events.”

The series continues it four-city sweep through the Northeast and heads next to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 12th. The Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki team will get Ken Roczen’s ankle injury evaluated early in the week. All the race teams are watching the weather and anticipating another likely mud race in the open Philadelphia stadium. The Suzuki riders and crew are ready for any conditions and hope to continue their march toward a great season aboard their Suzuki RM-Z450 race bikes.
